Parks and Natural Spaces
The city of Palencia has a surface of green areas close to 1,500 hectares of which 600,000 square meters correspond to landscaped areas located in town. This figure makes the city one of the first in the country in the ratio of green area per inhabitant. In the old medieval city, many of these sites were orchards and interior patios owned by convents. The expansion of the city and the incipient influence of the bourgeoisie in the 19th century profoundly transformed the look of the city, which saw the birth of promenades and garden squares as unique as the Huerta de Guadián or the Paseo del Salón.
