The DigiPal initiative is a project of the Palencia City Council selected in the II Call for Smart Cities within the framework of the Digital Agenda for Spain. It is developed through a collaboration agreement with RED.ES, a public business entity of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The main objective of the DigiPal initiative is to promote a progressive structural change in the city of Palencia aimed at achieving sustainable local development, based on the implementation of innovative projects and the support of ICTs. The initiative aims to modernize and improve digital public services and public administration, rationalizing its operating expenses and reducing its environmental footprint, and seeks to encourage collaboration between the different administrations and social agents that intervene in the city, activating and mobilizing resources, establishing work synergies between citizens, institutions and business fabric.

The DigiPal initiative aims to turn Palencia and its area into a smarter territory, promoting the development of a coordinated set of actions, through the use of ICT.

Among the different components of this initiative is the present Intelligent Tourism Platform, which allows the dissemination of all the tourist resources of the city of Palencia, greater interaction with tourists before, during and after the tourist experience and obtaining information and data that facilitate the planning of strategies for improvement, differentiation and optimization of resources.

The Intelligent Tourism Platform has the following elements:

  • Web portal for tourism diffusion, which offers information on the different tourist resources and services that the city offers, as well as a set of tools that facilitate visits to Palencia.
  • Tourism mobile application, in Android and iOS version, which allows the consultation of tourist information from mobile devices, with additional advantages derived from geolocation, the use of multimedia content and the possibility of receiving notifications with useful information.
  • Data collection panel, for the preparation of the tourist survey in the tourist information points and offices of the city and its subsequent exploitation and analysis through graphs and reports.
  • Data control panel, which allows real-time analysis of the use of the different tourism dissemination tools launched in the DigiPal initiative.
