Traditional festivity every first of the year in the surroundings of the church of San Miguel.

Palencia celebrates every January 1 its traditional Baptism of the Child, a unique celebration with five centuries of history organized by the Brotherhood Dulce Nombre del Niño Jesús and which, after its declaration in 2016, holds the recognition of a Festival of National Tourist Interest .

During this ancient religious custom of Italian origin, the carving, in the Baroque style, is carried on the shoulders of the authorities and the brotherhood of the brotherhood. Together they "rock" the Child Jesus to the sound of a popular Christmas carol entitled ‘Ea’. After the procession and in some of the balconies located in front of the temple, the “Pedrea de Confites y Caramelos” takes place. As a finishing touch, the Hymn of Palencia is performed at the foot of the San Miguel tower. For years, the brotherhood has managed to keep alive an act that has managed to preserve the essence and simplicity of its roots to the sound of a curious Christmas carol to which the composer Claudio Prieto wrote lyrics. The Baptism also takes place where the old Jewish quarter used to be located.
